New Year, New Intention for the Year
Over the past five years, I have been choosing a word as my intention for the year. This word is my guidepost for the year something I come back to all throughout the year leading me through. Instead of setting a bunch of New Year’s resolutions that don’t come to fruition, I choose one word and focus on that word during the year.
Now that 2024 has arrived, I have decided that my word for 2024 is organize. I decided on organize for multiple reasons.
For starters, I used to be very organized, and as I’ve gotten busier, I have been slacking on the organization. This goes for personal and business…. My dad likes to call this, “too many irons in the fire.”
To the outside person, I might come across as organized, but I know I have so much more in my head to put into an organized structure that will help my life. In order for this not to get overwhelming, I am going to start with identifying my current organization issues, and then tackling the problems a little at time.
I already have part of my problem with my current organization or lack there of identified, which is I don’t always realize how long things take. I am going to start adding time ranges next to my schedule for the day to avoid planning myself 14 hours of work and trying to cram it in 10 hours. I will show you guys how I am laying out my day in another post.
Another issue I already have identified is that I want to do too much at once. This is personal and professional… and what I have found is that when you try to do everything at once, nothing gets done well; you feel overwhelmed and are not truly present. My attack plan for this is to write everything down, sit with it for a few days, analyze if I can cross anything off, and prioritize the rest. This might sounds silly, but I will hanging this on my wall in my home office to hold myself accountable. I am someone who if I can see something everyday, I can keep it top of mind.
As I continue to identify more issues with my organization, I will share how I am tackling these issues with you. I have always found that having a word for the year helps me to make huge progress. If you’re looking for a new thing to try this coming year, this might be a good option for you.
I would love to know your word for the year or what you’re working on.
