After coming back from my Colorado trip, I had the cold from hell! Runny nose, chest congestion and an overall feeling of blah! For the first time in years I found myself sick on Thanksgiving – and it was going to be at my house.
Lucky for me, my husband stepped up to the plate! We usually make dinner together but this year he did it all himself. Typically, I run around frantic trying to get everything done but there I was laying on the couch and he was in the kitchen preparing everything. Quietly, without one complaint.
We had 12 people, a mix of family and friends. The food was delicious. I enjoyed my glass of wine and good company. Mid-day I started feeling better but the later it got the worse I felt.
My son and his cousin pitched in and did all the dishes. My in-laws picked up the table, cleaned and put the food and dishes away with my husband. I sat on the couch, guilty, sick and blah, but I also felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude and thankfulness.
And, isn’t that what Thanksgiving is all about. Being with family, sharing a delicious meal, and being thankful for the family in your life. Not worrying about if your house is perfect or that you’re perfect. No matter how messy life can get – family, in every sense of the word, is there to help you through.
Thank you, Derek, Eliza, Robert, Ciera, Annabelle, Cady, Marilyn, Michael, Linda, Pete and Tim for showing me what family means (and accepting air hugs for the day)!
